Review #211: Climax (The Publicist #3) by Christina George

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Never let an old flame burn you twice."

----Unknown

Christina George, an American author, pens the next journey in Kate Mitchell, a successful publicist's life where she runs into her old flame, and she never ever have imagined that her old flame still holds so much power over her feelings, until things get messy in her already perfect life, in the new book, Climax which is the third book, in The Publicist series.

Synopsis:

Kate Mitchell has never forgiven herself for breaking Nick Lavigne’s heart. Now he’s back and he’s moved on, and it’s affecting Kate’s life more than she’s willing to admit.

Kate Mitchell has everything. She's the head of a crazy successful publishing house, engaged to the traffic-stopping sexy Mac Ellis and she's about to sign one of the biggest authors of her career.

And that's when everything falls apart. Everything is perfect…until it’s not.

In a city of 8 million people Kate manages to run into someone she never expected to see again.

Nick is handsome, impossibly kind, every girl’s dream, and Kate’s former fiancé. He’s also the brother of the rising star author she’s trying to sign. Now that Nick’s back in town and has moved on he insists he’s over Kate, but part of him still can’t get past how amazing they were, and his sister won’t let anyone forget how brutally it ended.

When Mac is dealt a life-changing blow, it forces Kate to question every single choice she’s made.

Kate's career is sky-rocketing in the skyline of Manhattan and she is busy like hell with so many authors and their books. Kate's love-life is not too perfect since Mac is busy caring for his cancer-stricken ex-wife in Paris, and that is when Kate meets the impossibly handsome Nick, who believes that he is over Kate but old flames doesn't die out so easily. What happens next for you to find out?

Firstly, this is I believe the last books in the series and there will be no more Kate-Mac-Nick drama, and I definitely hate to say goodbyes. Anyhow, this time the passion is very gripping all through out the book and the author keeps us on the anticipation-loop with Kate-Nick drama and Kate-Mac drama, with the never-ending love triangle.

The writing is very mature compared to the previous books just like the storyline and moreover, the pace is really good with bit of mystery and bit of drama that kept me glued till the very end. I loved how the author have inserted so much edge to the storyline with the constantly shifting and changing events in Kate's life.

The primary characters have all grown up a bit in their demeanor and there are also some notable characters like Dr. Ruth and Nick's baby sister, who keeps the story in an interesting front. I really liked both these characters, while Dr. Ruth is a priceless support system in Kate's daily life, whereas Nick's sister is like the person who will take her mind off from the serious stuffs, in short, a total fun person.

Kat undergoes with lots of challenges in this book where she not only faces some scandals, but once again she goes through the pain of heart-break and failure and the way Kate handled those difficult issues, made me fall for her character. There is a lot of chemistry and passion between Nick and Kate which the author have once again depicted in her trademark style with intricate details and vividness and compassion.

Overall, it's an engrossing book and I definitely loved it more than the previous two books. There are also some twists that kept me wanting for more and I completely agree with that beautiful yet justified climax.

Verdict: A must read series for the contemporary romance readers.

Author Info:

I’ve worked in publishing for twenty years (give or take). Here’s what The Publicist isn’t. It’s not a slam against publishing (though it is broken) and it’s not a slam against authors (though some of them are crazy). This book is not autobiographical though many of the stories are true. No you won’t know which ones, hell it’s more fun to guess, right? I continue to work in publicity and help authors because at the end of the day I do love books, I love publishing, and I love authors. I hope you’ll enjoy this romp through Kate’s world as much as I enjoyed creating it.
