Review #183: Dream the Crow's Black Dream by John Hennessy

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Where there is no imagination there is no horror."

----Arthur Conan Doyle

John Hennessy, an Irish author, pens a stupendous paranormal tale called, Dream the Crow's Black Dream which is the fourth book in the seven-series novella, A Tale of Vampires.

Synopsis:

Several years have passed since Seth McAndrew was forced to recount the tale of The Blood and the Raven.

Now, on one of the most important days in his life, the sadistic vampire he thought had been buried along with his past, makes a very unwelcome return.

When he refuses to succumb to her violent and disturbing needs, the body count ruthlessly and rapidly increases. Seth realizes with brutal clarity that he cannot escape the curse of the vampire.

An opportunity arises when he meets another of her kind. Piece by piece, a recurring dream shows him how he might just put an end to her killing ways. But will he be prepared to risk the best thing in his life, in order to destroy the worst?

First and foremost, I would like to congratulate the author for his fourth book in this series and for spinning a terrific story about vampires. Who said the vampires are cheesy and romantic? Certainly not! After you read this book, or this series, your perspective on vampires will completely change.

Vampires are not meant to show mercy, vampires are not meant to show human emotions, vampires are not meant to hold grudges, vampires are not meant to wear the latest fashion, vampires are not meant to sleep on cozy beds, vampires are not meant to drink blood from blood bags or from a Starbucks foam coffee cup- instead vampires are mean to kill without a flicker of thought, vampires are meant to wear clothes from Victorian era, vampires are meant to sleep in a coffin box, vampires are meant to drink blood from a human and rip their heads off and vampires are meant to be scary and bloody- no pun intended!
And thank you John for showing us the true color of a vampire!

Let's move back to the story where Seth McAndrew whom we met in the second book this series, is back in the picture and this time not as a 17-year old boy who watched the tale of the blood and the raven unfold in front of eyes and his beloved, Daisy sacrificing her life to a vampire named, Gretchen. This time Seth is twenty nine years old, engaged to his fiance, Rosalyn, but Seth wants redemption for Daisy and will not stop until he kills that old vampire Gretchen. However it seems this mission is not only going to cost him his sleep with a scary, cold dream of a crow, but his fiance too. Will Seth be able to kill Gretchen and save Rosalyn?

Warning: This book is not for the weakest of weak souls!

The writing is absolutely fan-freaking-tastic with brilliantly twisting and mind-numbing plot. From the first line itself, the story will engage you to it's deepest core. Yeah John is utterly exceptional when it comes to twists and cliffhangers, he will never allow you to see the end until the very last chapter. You will sweat your brains out, but John is surely going to kick your butt in the end with a major twist or character.

Now let's not get into much details of his style of portraying the whole story with blood, guts, disgusting human parts, skull, etc! And it doesn't even sound a bit unreal or fake or something dramatic, instead he is so smart to make the plot into something real and the way and the way he does it, will easily make you fall for that trap! At times, while reading, I had to close my eyes to stop myself from picture those Gothic and raw details. All the bloody details are extremely striking and so vivid that it feels like it's happening in front of your eyes.

Okay now the best thing about the whole series that you can read each book as a standalone book, since no books are related to one another with their stories, instead they are entwined through the characters. Like the fourth book picks up characters from the first book and tells us the aftermath of the second book's tale. Isn't that interesting and something very unique? I mean his fans are in for some astounding treat for each and every book.

There are some books which you never ever miss reading them, even though it's not your genre, because there are authors who know how to craft a story and surprise his readers in each and every page.

Verdict: A must-read for sure and this book will take hardly some minutes to read it.

  1. It seems like this is the kind of book which certainly does take things back to the original and scary kind of vampire. I like the sound of that as well! As well as amazing writing ^.^
